What is SMP?

SMP, or Scalp Micropigmentation, uses thousands of tiny tattoo dots to replicate the appearance of shaved hair roots. It can create a new hairline, camouflage thinning areas and produce a natural, freshly shaved look.
The first medical publication on scalp micropigmentation appeared in 2001. Since then, the technique has evolved through specialised needles, pigments and application methods and is now practised around the world.

The Norwood Scale
The Norwood Scale shows how male pattern hair loss progresses — from the first changes at the temples to advanced hair loss.
THE STORY BEHIND THE SCALE
Hair loss follows a recognisable pattern.
In 1951, physician James Hamilton described the progressive stages of male pattern hair loss. In 1975, Dr O’Tar Norwood refined the classification into the scale widely used today.
It follows the change from early recession at the temples to a receding hairline and thinning crown, until the areas merge in the most advanced stages.
The scale shows more than how much hair has been lost — it shows how your individual pattern has developed.
That makes it valuable when designing an SMP hairline suited to your:

At Norwood stages 5–7, the area requiring coverage is greater than the available donor hair can support. In these cases, SMP — Scalp Micropigmentation — is the ideal solution, creating a natural-looking hairline and providing a permanent, long-lasting result.

What you need to know.
Does SMP look like a tattoo?+
No. The dots are extremely small and designed to look like shaved hair roots, not a traditional tattoo.
Is the treatment painful?+
Most clients find it considerably milder than a traditional tattoo, although everyone’s experience is different.
Do I need time off work?+
No. You do not need to take time off work, although you will need to follow simple aftercare instructions.
How long does SMP last?+
SMP lasts for many years. The pigment gradually softens over time and can be refreshed with a maintenance session.
How is my hairline chosen?+
It is designed around your facial features, head shape, age and preferences — and approved by you before treatment begins.
